IELTS:International English Language Testing System
IELTS is an English language proficiency test required to be taken by all non native English language speakers, who are about to study in countries where the medium of instruction is in English. In Europe IELTS is recognized by all universities. Particularly for admission in UK IELTS is mandatory.
IELTS tests all four language skills - Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The Speaking test is a face-to-face interview with a certified Examiner. It is interactive and as close to a real-life situation as a test can get. Research shows that IELTS motivates test-takers to develop real and well-rounded English rather than learning by rote. This means your understanding of English is improved and valid for real life in an English-speaking country.
We provide coaching for IELTS in our Hyderabad branch office. The course is for one month. There is also a crash course available, for duration of 15 days. The registration for the course usually starts at the end of each month. The course is taught by able professionals with experience in this field for up to 4 years.
The test is conducted by the British Council. You can contact your local British Council office to find out where your nearest test centre is located. Most centers normally have a testing session about once a month. You should contact the test centre to find out the date of the next test and collect the IELTS handbook and an application form. The filled application form should be sent back to the test centre with the test fee. You will be given a date and time of your test. The test results are made available in two weeks of taking the test.
The different sections of test are as follows:
Listening section : 30 minutes
Reading section : 60 minutes
Writing section : 60 minutes
Speaking section : 11 to 14 minutes
Total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes.
The test scores are reported in band score format. There would be four band scores for each of the sections. The average of the four band scores would be your overall band score. The band scores are in a range of 0 to 9.
Usually a band score of 6.0 to 6.5 is expected by universities.
